Our Story

Gather was created to educate, support and hold space for women as they transition through major life moments.

Our intention is to surround our community with love and care no matter what journey they are on.

To honour all who come through our doors, we offer workshops, gatherings and one-on-one sessions to empower and nurture, plus women’s and prenatal yoga, meditation and doula connections.

We are an inclusive space open to all.

Our founder

Gather was founded in 2018 by mother of three, birth doula and author Gabrielle Nancarrow.

Gather was a little seed in Gabrielle’s mind for a long time, beginning in New York City in 2013 when her first pregnancy ended in miscarriage. She was stricken by a complex grief and did not know where to turn for support. Wouldn’t it be wonderful, she thought, if there existed a place where women could go and be vulnerable and share their stories with others who understood? A space that offered not just physical but emotional healing as well?

The idea stayed with her through her next pregnancy, during which she discovered the magic of doulas and hired one for her first birth in 2014. That birth changed her on all levels of her being, as all births do, and not long after she quit her corporate job and trained to become a birth doula herself.

Gabrielle and her family returned to Melbourne in 2016 and she started work on her vision: a space to educate, support and hold space for women.

Gather was born in September 2018.

In 2020, she was asked by Hardie Grant Books to write her first book, The Birth Space. Her second book, The Motherhood Space, is to be released on October 2023.

Gabrielle is currently working as a birth doula and educator and a doula mentor, as well as running Gather and raising her three children Camille, Audrey and Frederick.
